Bet Builder Meaning
A bet builder combines several outcomes from the same match into one bet: a result, a goals line, a scorer, cards — stacked into a single price. Every leg must win. It is the same-match cousin of the accumulator, and the fastest-growing product in football betting.
How it settles
All legs settle on the same ninety minutes, and one failed leg loses the slip. Voided legs (an anytime scorer who never comes on is the classic) usually reprice the builder at the remaining legs' odds, but house rules vary more here than in any standard market and are worth reading. Because every leg shares one match, cash-out behaviour is also livelier — and priced against you, as always.
The maths, and why correlation is everything
In a normal acca the legs are independent, so multiplying probabilities is fair. Inside one match they are not independent, and that is the whole game. Some legs travel together: a team winning correlates with its striker scoring; an open game correlates with both teams scoring and the over. Some fight each other: a defensive side winning correlates against over 3.5 goals.
Bookmakers price builders leg by leg, apply a correlation adjustment of varying honesty, and add margin for the packaging — total fees north of 15 percent are routine. Value survives only where positively correlated legs have been multiplied as if independent. A "home win + over 2.5 + home striker anytime" builder is one coherent story priced as three separate events; a "home win + under 2.5 + away striker anytime" builder is three stories fighting, at a price that flatters none of them.
A worked example
Arsenal to win, over 2.5 goals, Saka anytime: quoted at 4.80. Reading the same combination off the model's scoreline grid — which holds the joint distribution, so "Arsenal win AND three-plus goals" is a single summed number — gives 24 percent, fair odds 4.17. Here the quoted 4.80 beats fair: the operator has under-adjusted for how tightly the legs travel. £10 returns £48 on a 3-1 with a Saka goal. Reverse the finding — quoted 4.20 against fair 4.17 — and the same slip is margin wearing a costume.
Using builders sensibly
Two or three legs that share one story; check the single prices first so you know what a fair multiple would be (the bet calculator does the arithmetic); and treat long celebrity builders as entertainment priced accordingly.
