Individual Total Meaning in Betting
Individual total means the number of goals scored by one team only, ignoring the other side completely. Where a normal over/under line counts both teams' goals, individual total 1 counts only the home team's and individual total 2 counts only the away team's. The market appears under this name at bookmakers popular across Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda and Tanzania, including 1xBet-style menus; European books call the same thing "team total goals".
Reading the market name
The confusing part is the numbering, so here it is plainly. "Individual total 1 over 0.5" means the home team to score at least one goal. "Individual total 2 under 1.5" means the away team to score one goal or none. The 1 or 2 picks the team, exactly as it does in 1X2; the line works exactly as goals lines always work. Half-goal lines cannot push: the team's goal count is either over or under the line. Whole-number lines refund the stake when the count lands exactly on the line, so individual total 1 under 2.0 pushes if the home side scores precisely twice.
Only that team's goals in normal time plus stoppage count. The final result is irrelevant: a side can lose 2-3 and comfortably win its over 1.5 individual total.
The maths
Convert the price to an implied probability by dividing 100 by the odds, then ask the right question: how often does this specific team score this many goals, against this specific defence? A team averaging 1.6 goals per match at home clears over 0.5 in roughly four matches out of five and over 1.5 in about half, but averages flatter to deceive when the opponent changes the arithmetic. The same attack facing the division's best defence might carry an expected total nearer 0.9, and the honest probabilities shrink with it.

Gor Mahia win 2-1: their individual count of two clears the 1.5 line and the bet returns 975 shillings. Had they won 1-0, a winning match bet, this bet loses, which is the distinction that catches newcomers.
When individual totals beat the main lines
The market shines when your opinion is about one team rather than the match: a strong attack against a poor defence in a game whose other half is unpredictable, or fading a blunt away side with under 0.5 at fair odds rather than guessing the full scoreline. It also prices team strength more purely than 1X2, since a team can play well and draw.
