1X2 Meaning in Betting
1X2 is football's basic match result market. The symbols are a coupon shorthand: 1 means the home team wins, X means the draw, 2 means the away team wins. Every fixture has exactly one winning outcome of the three, settled on the score after ninety minutes plus stoppage time.
How it settles
Extra time does not count: back a side 1X2 in a cup tie and a draw after ninety settles the bet as X, whatever happens afterwards. That distinction catches more newcomers than any other rule in football betting. Otherwise settlement is as simple as markets get, which is why 1X2 is where most people start and where the sharpest prices live.
The maths
Convert each price to an implied probability (100 divided by the decimal odds) and the three will sum a little over 100 percent; the excess is the bookmaker's margin, typically 4 to 7 percent on this market and the leanest fee in football. A market priced 2.10 / 3.30 / 3.60 implies 47.6 / 30.3 / 27.8 — a 105.7 total.
Two structural facts are worth carrying. Home advantage is real but shrinking, worth a fraction of a goal that varies by league. And the draw is the market's orphan: nobody supports it, casual money avoids it, and it is consequently the most persistently mispriced of the three outcomes, as the draw predictions page explores.
A worked example
Brighton host Fulham at 2.25 / 3.40 / 3.20. The model rates the fixture 48 / 27 / 25. Brighton's price implies 44.4 percent against the model's 48, a gap of 3.6 points; the other two outcomes offer no edge. You stake £10 on the 1 at 2.25. Brighton win 2-0 and the bet returns £22.50. Had the model said 42 percent instead, the identical bet at the identical price would have been a mistake that happened to win — the distinction the value betting guide exists to drill.
Variations built on 1X2
Double chance folds two outcomes into one shorter price; draw no bet refunds the X; Asian handicaps remove the draw and add goal lines; HT/FT asks for the result at both the interval and the end. All of them are 1X2 with the risk rearranged, and all price off the same three probabilities.
The model's current match result selections, each with probability, odds and edge, are on the 1X2 tips page, settled into the public record like every market here.
